Meet our Team
Valley Dog Rescue of Texas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit no-kill animal rescue organization established by Carol Smith in 2020 and is often the difference between life and death for many rescued animals. We rescue animals from shelters and deplorable conditions who either “run out of time” or are “deemed unadoptable” due to medical issues, behavioral issues, or age. Rescued animals receive required medical care (emergency, routine, and specialty), behavior modification, and training, as well as boarding, food, grooming, and shelter. Hundreds of dogs have been rescued and adopted since VDR’s inception.
Valley Dog Rescue of Texas is dedicated to rescuing abandoned, neglected, and abused animals from the Valley of South Texas. We strive to provide medical care, emotional healing, and placement into permanent loving homes for all animals in need. At VDR we are a voice for those powerless innocent animals who cannot speak. We spread awareness to animal rescue, inspire others to get involved and become advocates for all animals.
Our goals are quite simple: to save as many animals as possible from being killed in Texas shelters. Texas is one of the top five states that account for half of all the dogs and cats killed in shelters in the United States. According to Shelter Animals Count, in 2023 an estimated 3.2 million dogs entered the shelter system and approximately 360,000 dogs were euthanized. This is an atrocious number! If we all work together and do our part, this number can be significantly reduced.
With the support of our generous donors and volunteers, we can care for countless abandoned, abused, and neglected animals in need. We try to ensure their futures are filled with love, care, and kindness. We nurture the connection between people and animals through volunteering, fostering, and adoption. Never underestimate the therapeutic healing an animal can provide. We offer opportunities for the community to become involved, volunteer, and make a difference with us.
